I now have a new appreciation for all the blogs and cake maker/decorators I see out there, even the ones at the grocery store.
I wasn't so sure about how the cake would come out but the batter was heavenly! I haven't yet bit into one of the cupcakes, but if it's anything like the batter, I know my fiance will love them!
Tomorrow is our one year anniversary together and I wanted to make him cupcakes. HE LOVES cupcakes and so far to date, I've been making out of the box ones. He asked for vanilla since he doesn't seem to like other flavors (admittedly, his tastes are pretty plain as far as food goes). He also gave me the idea to go with the green and orange motif. You see, early on in our relationship (last December) we both used to hang out a lot. I had a green jacket, he had an orange hoodie and those are our respective favorite colors - to the point that he has orange/brown converse shoes and I have green ones!
So I also thought to put the sprinkles in alternate colors too to try and tie them together.
I followed a generic Martha Stewart vanilla white cake recipe and got to bake with cake flour and baking powder for the first time. I didn't get to sift anything, since I haven't currently felt far enough in my baking hobby to purchase that.
Enjoy the pictures!

EDIT: Upon tasting them, they remind me of Angel's food cake. The frosting was overly sweet, so I'll need to find a better recipe for that. After freezing though it became very buttery tasting, which I guess is where the name "buttercream" comes from. I am not the biggest fan though. I also didn't make enough frosting to really get to play around with the cake decorating tools my grandmother bought for me, but overall, I'm pleased with my first all handmade cupcakes. :)
